From Books to Virtual Reality
Remember when Dungeon's and Dragons took hold? How about Vampire Masquerade? These popular roleplaying games have become and integral part of history. Looked upon as games for those who lacked social networking skills, they became a way to escape the norm and delve into a mystical world full of vampires, elves and faeries. The ordinary man or woman could soon become a magical creature possessing marvelous powers to mold the world around them. With the invention of the internet these roleplay games have declined in popularity but it is not the end for roleplay by any means. Roleplay has gone 3D in recent years, with social networking sites offering larger than life roleplay communities geared towards visual appeal and real time play with people all over the world. Many communities have begun following the original rules put forth in the older roleplay games, merging the past with the future.
No longer a game for the socially challenged, roleplay sites can proudly boast an wide array of successful individuals as well as students who identify with the "in" crowds. Quickly becoming an ideal escape from your everyday worries, roleplay offers the chance for players to build a kingdom from the ground up and develop an army as well as a family to suit the needs of your storylines. Beginning roleplay is not as easy as you may think , and imagination is crucial to successful story lines and communications within these communities. There are rules and styles players must adhere to.
In the next few hubs, I will be explaining the starting rules and ongoing training required for roleplay communities online. For those interested, I suggest looking into the various popular online games available through a general search. Don't try just one but do your research, find out what roleplays are available and how well they fit with your skill level. Beginners don't want a heavy roleplay that requires paragraph posting for everything, however more skilled players would fare better in this kind of strict roleplay. With that said Happy Hunting and don't forget to do your research!
